Paralysis by leg kick? That sounds a lot like a top secret kung fu move that only the bearded masters know of. At the end of this post, you will discover the weakness of the human leg that you could totally take advantage of and shock your next opponent.

A recent study done by the cool guys over at Damage Control MMA showed that there is a smarter and more efficient way of throwing a leg kick. Common knowledge tells you to kick the thighs with all your might, break it down with a couple more kicks until it got so sore that your opponent can’t even stand properly anymore. Now, rendering the leg inoperable by damaging the muscle tissue could take more than just one kick before it happens. But if you dig deeper on the leg’s overall structure you will see the hidden weaknesses of the human leg.

So what’s the big secret? Attack the nerves! Our whole body is controlled by the nervous system, messing with it is usually a bad idea but for the sake of having an unfair advantage you can abuse it. Take out the nerve , take out the leg. The primary nerve structures of the leg are exposed enough to be hit with a power shot, and according to their study:

…nerve attacks immediately cause the temporary loss of control for the limb. Whereas muscle tissue attacks cause swelling, cramping/knotting, and gradual deterioration of muscle function.

Watch The video below for full detail:

Be sure to head on over at damage control mma and read Dr. Sick’s muay techniques to exploit this knowledge.

An Obscure punching technique from mma’s pound for pound king Fedor Emelianenko. This is a perfect demonstration of the correct body mechanics that is essential to increase punching power. But this powerful punching technique comes with its own pros and cons.

This is why this punch is powerful:

1. It maximizes the correct punching mechanics to generate power:

The whipping motion of the arm supported by the push of the legs and the hips help in the transport of power to your fists.

2. It’s an illusive style:

The punch can be easily transitioned to an elbow or a setup for a throw.

3. It comes from a weird angle:

The angle of the punch is higher than the shoulder as opposed to the typical boxing hook, where the forearm is at the same level as the shoulder. It doesn’t only throw your opponent off because of its weirdness but it also decreases rebound force since the arm is not aligned with your shoulder. huh?

What the Physics? Here’s what happens, the typical hook as you know it is delivered with your arms aligned with your shoulder and your wrists straight. It was designed this way to reduce hand-related injuries so that upon impact the rebound force gets evenly distributed all throughout your forearm. If you ever worked the boxing mitts at your local mma gym you’ll know what I’m talking about. When you do the orthodox hook you will feel a slight resistance on your elbow and your shoulder upon impact. With this technique you will feel a significantly lesser resistance which means that more force was transferred to your target’s face. Ouch!

It’s Too Powerful For It’s Own Good!

So where did the rebound force go? nowhere else but your hand itself. This is why Fedor is prone to breaking his hand. In exchange for more power you pose a higher risk of breaking your hand. That’s price you pay for wielding this dangerous technique. The least you can do to prevent this from happening is to pick your target carefully, hitting only the spot rich in soft tissues like the cheeks instead of going for the temple but that is another story.

This is an awesome video from the one and only, FIGHT NERD

It is very easy to tell a professional fighter or at least some guy who had training in martial arts from a certified street fighter simply from the punching technique alone. A novice punch is usually over charged , that is when you wind-up your punch too much.

Just like this video below:

Although this punch could be devastating , this kind of punching suffers from its own strength… the over charge. And that leaves you with a very dangerous opening.

Proper boxing technique demands that punches are executed from a balanced boxing stance. And when you throw a punch the arm is brought back to the guard position as quickly as it was thrown forward. The key is sharp delivery and snappy recovery. We’ll go into detail with the boxing stance later on.

In boxing there are 4 kinds of punches, namely; ‘jab’, ‘cross’, ‘hook’ and ‘uppercut’. The jab is a straight punch given from your non dominant hand(commonly your left hand) following a clockwise rotation of the torso and hips. This punch is used for setting up combos and maintaining your distance from your opponent.

The cross is a strong and straight punch using your dominant hand. This is punch is much more powerful than the jab because of the assistance of the hip, shoulder, and the driving force generated by the ball of the rear foot.

The hook is a punch done with either the lead hand or the rear hand to the side of the opponent’s head in a semi-circular movement. This is a power punch that could come as a surprise to your opponent as it is harder to see and defend against as opposed to the jab and cross that are directly coming at you.

The uppercut is a vertical and rising punch executed with either hand. This punch is a powerful punch that could effectively hit your target’s chin or solar plexus.

These are just some tips for a fresh boxer.
